This album is a compilation of four pieces that I composed for contemporary dance, between 2017 and 2020
I. Argo (2017) - stereo reduction
"Argo is the name of underwater sensors that allow the observation of the oceans in real time."
Argo is a quadraphonic (4.0) "re"composition for 17 dancers. Originally, the choreography was based on "Les Variations de Goldberg" from J.S. BACH.
I recomposed this piece in a totally opposite point of view, focused on density, space and relation between sounds coming from the loudspeakers and the acoustic sounds from the dancers.
Choreographer : Marie-Laure Fauduet
Created at Conservatory of Nice, 2017
II. Variation (2020)
"Variation" is a creation for the French National contemporary dance exams.
It was commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture.
The choreographer and I based this piece as a reference to Trisha Brown's aesthetic. Based on the sentence "Elle ne fait que passer" (She is just passing through), we built a piece about four principles characteristic of Trisha Brown's dance, playing on a permanent interaction between space, weight and gravity issues. Sound creation was based both on sounds from "field recordings" and electronic sounds.
Choreographer : Marie-Laure Fauduet
Created at Conservatory of Nice, 2019
III. Terra Nova (2018)
Terra Nova is a mixed piece for four musicians (voice, electric guitar, synthesizer/sequences, percussion) and contemporary dance.
Inspired by the quest for the great polar spaces, this project is born from the encounter between instrumental music and improvised contemporary dance.
"Terra Nova", or New Earth, is the exploration ground for a first instrumental piece but also for dance improvisation.
Exploring space, the unexpected, the accident - the music/dance work developed on the interaction developed by the instrumental playing and the spontaneous movements they generated.
Choreographer : Marie-Laure Fauduet
Musicians : Marion Giansily (vocals), Diane Versace (percussions), Arthur Arsenne (electric guitar), Héloïse Francesconi (synthesizer)
Created at Conservatory of Nice, 2018
Premiere at Biennale de l'improvisation, Auditorium Kosma, Nice
IV. Electric Sheep (2019)
Electric Sheep is piece created for 15 dancers and a drone.
Based on the Thomas Moore's book "Utopia", we based this creation, 1 year before the terrible pandemic situation - on a dystopic world filled by control, security and resilience.
The music composition was created during a residency at the performance venue. Almost all the sounds in this piece come from sounds recorded in situ, made of gutters, impacts, fans, etc.
Choreographer : Eric Oberdorff
Premiere at Le 109, Nice, during the event "Vers Abraxa" by University Côte d'Azur
